Hello,

I just installed MySQL on a Win 2003 server (version 5.10.130.0). I created the my.cnf file on the c drive as required.

I am now trying to activate the system. On attempting to execute mysqladmin.exe from the c:\mysql\bin folder, the usual interface does not come up. I just get a command window with a black background, which disappears within a second or two of opening.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do?

Thank you, Stewart Engelman

Addendum to initial post:

I was not able to upload the three cab files that ship with 5.10.130.0 in the normal manner. The server is off site, so I downloaded the MySQL zip archive to my PC, unzipped it, and uploaded the files to the server via FTP. My FTP client for some reason cannot upload cab files, so I changed the three extensions to txt before uploading, and switched them back to cab on the server. I then installed 5.10.130.0 on the server using an RDP clone.

I don't know if the above is of any importance, but I thought I'd mention it.

If you open a command window, and run mysqladmin.exe from that, you should see any error messages which are produced. Then you can close the window at your leisure.

Hi Tony,

I tried running mysqladmin in command mode. I didn't see any specific errors, and the MySQL icon did not get placed in the taskbar.

Output in the command window consisted of:

-Copyright and warranty notice
-List of command line options available
-List of values for MySQL system variables/boolean options
-List of files from which default options are read
-List of more command line options available
-List of MySQL commands and definitions

In the list of files from which default options are read, I didn't explicitly create c:\WINNT\my.ini (this file is mentioned in the list). I searched the hard drive and it appears nowhere on the disk. Do I need to create this file? If yes, how do I find out what to put in it?

Thanks, Stu
