I am attempting to install Win2k3 on a dual PIII 1.3ghz, 1.5gb ram server. This server sits behind a PIX 520 firewall which is the gateway to the network. I have statically mapped a real world ip through the pix to the server. I want the server to the the domain controller as well as handle DNS, DHCP, WWW, and Exchange 2003. I continually run into problems with DNS. I have the domain name registered and all proper entries made to the nameserver from the registrar. I had initially wanted the server to provide the internal and external DNS and be authoritative for my registered domain, but I continue to have DNS problems when I try to set it up that way. It seems to get confused that the server has two ip's (one external and one internal). Is there a way to make this server do DNS (inside and outside) addresses? After I set everything up I run into the same problem: Exchange won't receive messages from outside the network (i.e. internet mail) but works fine inside the network. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Your much better off just being authoritative for your internal domain. Let the ISP manage your external domain DNS. Your DC should only have one ip address. This should solve your problem.

Also make sure that you name your internal domain name something different from your registered domain name on the internet (for security and to avoid problems when your inside your domain trying to get to your public web site)

External registered domain should be something like COMPANY.COM

Internal domain name should be something like COMPANY-INT.LOCAL

-hope this helkps...
