I know this is really for professional problems with win 2003 and this us therfore not really a suitable place for this questiona and certainly not high priority but wondered if anyone might have pointers

As a web developer I run win 2003 server Enterprise (32bit) on my laptop for my work. This is useful as I can show and develop for a number of sites at the same time (classic asp, asp.net etc). Recently I was given a iTouch as a present and found you need to install iTunes in order to use it. When I try this however I get

'Apple Mobile device Support requires computer is running win xp sp2 or newer', and the install stops.

Without this I cannot see the iTouch.

I had the same problem in the past with Photoshop CS3, but was able to get round it using the MS Application Verifier to lie about the O/S and Photoshop CS3 now runs fine on my machine. Using this didn't work in this case though when I tried to install iTunesSetup.exe and I can't seem to get the Apple mobile support driver seperate.

Anybody got any suggestions that aren't too complicated (ie editing machine code)

Ive tried Virtual PC in the past but its too slow on my machine and prefer running win 2003 on its own before anyone suggests that and please no Macs are better than PCs flames. My own opinion are they are equally as good and both have pros and cons and I'm not in a position to buy a new machine just for my iTouch.

As I said its not that important as its just for personal use, but if anyone has managed to crack this I would appreciate any help

Thanks

Is your 2003 server at the SP2 level? Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP are more or less the same so having your server at the SP2 level may be all that you need.

Hope this helps.

cmeagan656,
Thanks for the advice. It is win 2003 sp2, but unfortunately that didn't help - I still got the error

SimonDavies,
Thanks too, I'll have a look at VMware ThinApp and see if it would work

Thanks both of you for your help

cmeagan656,

Thought it may be useful to other people. For other programs with the same problem (ie not supporting win 2003) I found the following quite useful and seems to work for a number of programs (though not iTunes). Remember though there may be a reason win 2003 is not supported in some cases:

Download and install the Microsoft Application Verifier program.
2. Run the application
3. Select File->Add Application, the browse to the Setup.exe of the program you want to install.
4. Under tests check compatablity, then "HighVersionLie"
To mimic XP SP2, you would type in the following values:
Major:5
Minor:1
BuildNumber:2600
ServicePack Major:2
ServicePack Minor:1
Then save.

5. With the application verifier still running Run the setup program for the program you are trying to install.
