Help, I have just run out of IP addresses on my subnet and need to route across to a second I have 2 class c subnets but need to keep to one subnet mask as this is all my firewall can handle. I have set up a spare machine with 2000 server and 2 network cards each on a subnet. How do I configure rras to allow data and routing through. I have three other servers on the original subnet and now want to add more machines but need them to be routed through this extra machine. My servers and firewall have fixed IP's the rest of the machines use DHCP.

This worked for me -
1. Go through the RRAS wizard and choose Network Router when prompted
2. After the wizard is complete and service started configure a static route,I don't have server here at home and I can't remember exactly but I believe you expand IP routing and right click General to create a static route,
the dialog will ask you for network, mask, gateway, and a combo box will list the interfaces. Choose the interface(NIC) that is attached to your new network, put 0.0.0.0 in the network, 0.0.0.0 in the subnet mask, and the address of the NIC connected to your old network in the gateway.
3. Make sure the NIC connected to the old network has the default gateway in the properties dialog set to the router
4. Make sure the NIC connected to the new network has no entry in the default gateway in the properties dialog
5. Configure your new network clients to use the address of the NIC in the server connected to the new network
6. My configuration also had RIP added to both interfaces with the default settings but I don't think you need that

Hope this helps
J
