Win 2000 pro and emachines 366 tower
When this unit had windows 98se on it when you selected shutdown from the start menu it would completly power down normaly.

I replaced the HD and loaded windows 2000 pro and now when i shut down it gets to a point and then says "it is safe to turn off your computer" and then i have to hit the power switch.

Is then a way to make it turn off like before??

go to power settings, APM and enable advance power management.... But just to let you know i have a gateway here that with that enable (even though it supports it) the system just restarts instead of shutting down

it's in msconfig (its not included with Windows 2000.... get it here:

and then, when you do that, there should be some stuff in there like "quick power off"...

some computers just restart if you have that setting on , but some turn off automatically. it all depends on your motherboard.
