We are runnign Netware 5.1 with mostly 98 machines. the one 2000 machine we have got, keeps on requesting a windows password in addition to the novell login.

I've removed all MS networking from the network properties and diasabled the users check box - so that you should not have to enter a password to login, but it still asks for both passwords.

the prob is that many users hotdesk, so i't shard to keep updating the win 2000 user list - can i bypass this so it acts liek win 98 on login?

any help appreciated Parm

I, like you, are having the same problems with the Win2K login screen. I have not completely abolished the login but I found a way around it. What I did was go into Users and Passwords in Control Panel and check the "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer", hit apply, then uncheck it and hit apply. It will then ask you to put in a name and password that everyone can use to enter the Win2K workstation. I left the username Administrator but left the passwords blank. This enables the user to just hit the OK button to enter the workstation. I hope this helps.

If you have ZENworks, create a workstation policy and enable Dynamic Local User. This will need Workstation Manager to be installed as part of the Novell Client installation as well. -----------------------------------------------------

I have ZENworks with Workstation Manager installed, but I'm not sure how I would go about implementing the Dynamic Local user and creating a workstation policy. Can anyone fill me in?

Hopefully, this little procedure may help:

a) In NWAdmin, create a policy package.

b) Select "WinNT-Win2000 User Package" and click "Next"

c) Enter a name (required) and change context (if desired). Click "Next".

d) Tick the "Dynamic Local User" policy and click on the details button (situated on the right-hand side).

e) On the Dynamic Local User screen, tick "Enable Dynamic Local User". I would also recommend ticking "manage existing NT account", "Use NetWare Credentials" & "Volatile User". I would also recommend putting the "Power Users" group into the "Member of" section. Click "Ok" once done.

f) Click "Next". On the next screen. you can add asociations (basically users/containers that adhere to this policy). Select the users/containers (either or, I recommend containers) that you want to adhere to this policy. Click "Next" once done. Click "Finish" to create the policy package.

Also, ensure that your Workstation Manager on the client has your tree name specified. Hope this helps. -----------------------------------------------------
