Hello,
I am tasked with upgrading a current Win 2000 server to Windows 2003. We are having new hardware.
The Win2000 server currently has a MS SQL Server 2000 database which by the end of the year will be updated to SQL Server 2005.
My question, should I make the move to the new server by installing 2003 and sql server 2005 or would it be safer to first install 2003 server, run the sql 2000 database on the new hardware and after that upgrade the sql 2000 server to 2005?
What are the pros and cons of both?
Should there be anything specific to take care off?
Cheers
Alonzo

Depends what the database is for and what uses it. If there is a 3rd party software that uses it, I would check with them. Otherwise, you should be able to build the 2003 box and put SQL 2005 on it and then move that databases over. I just did that about a month ago, but I verified with the software vendor that everything was compatible first.
