Still new to linux. I want to know before I proceed with what I found on the almighty google.

Will this guide work on ubuntu. Or will I need to direct this to ubuntu repositories?

I honestly don't quite know what a repository is, but I am having fun messing around with linux!

Thanks!

here is the link

The concept will work, but you need to point to Ubuntu repositories. These are Internet file servers where the offical Ubuntu (or whatever) versions of the programs are stored and provided for downloading/installation using the apt-get or aptitude type package management software. Apt-get/aptitude/synaptic is the Debian package manager. Ubuntu is based on Debian but has its own repositories.

You will have a file called sources.list stored in /etc/apt/ on your system that tells APT where to look for files you want to download. You need to edit this file with some type of text editor.

Thanks this is what I thought, I just need to find out the ubuntu repositories to point too.

I will try to find out as much as I can on google!

Thanks!
