The report is already grouping the data with a group say Departments and only two groups are on the report. One of the Summary fields is a count of all employees under each group.

Like:

HR
20
R&D
30

Now if instead of adding third group say FIN in the group list, I want to create a running total field that counts on a field and calculates the count for FIN group(by specifying Reset on Change of Field for "FIN" group) would that give me correct count for the third group?
Although report is being grouped by two groups.
Please respond ASAP as I have to submit this report by today.

Thanks,

If possible, try to post technical information, such as crystal version, database used, connectivity, example data and expected output.

So when you say that here are two groups, what you mean is that there are a count of 2 distinct Departments within the Department group (not 2 groups), correct? Because your example only shows one group (department), with two types.

And this 3rd group, is really the 2nd group in the report, and if all of this is correct, then yes, a 2nd group inserted for a FIN field with a running total count reset at the FIN group and placed in the FIN group footer would give you the count of each FIN within the FIN grouping for each Department within the Department grouping.

CR v 8.5, SQL Server 2000.

My concer is that if I just want the running total for a 3rd group that is not in the list (HR and R&D), and place it in the report footer will it return correct values?
I have tried testing it and I am not getting correct values.
May be I am missing something here.

In short I am trying to creating 3rd groups count without adding it in the report and just display its count right next to the count of HR and R&D.

Thank,s

I know that the posting makes sense to you, but example data and expected output makes sense to everyone. It's a bit more work up front, but it's generally less overall and minimizes tha amount of posts.

Again, you don't have 3 groups, you have 2 departments (I think) within that group, this only adds to the confusion by using terms inappropriately.

I may be a bit impatient this morning, but instead of supplying requested information, you're just repeating yourself.

On a more playful note, my favorite definition for insanity is someone who repeats the same process over and over and expects a different result ;)

I am sorry vampire,
Here is sample report:

Dept EmpCnt
==============================
Hr 20 (##) run tot for 3rd grp(FIN)

R&D 30 (##) run tot for 3rd grp(FIN)

You can see that FIN is not listed in the group list, but I just need to show its count right next to the count of other groups (HR and R&D)

hope this helps.
