This power supply formerly powered a 9630G. Now its collecting dust and I have a 1603 that needs a power adapter. Will this one work or be too much power for the 1603?

No, don't even try it.
The phone needs a 5V 1A adaptor of any kind but 48V is way to much.

Look for part number 700415607 if you want to use a standard POE port to power the phone, or 700451230 if you want to power the phone off an AC outlet.

False economy the 1603's by the time they're POE compatible you may as well put a 1608 in, and it's far more functional :)

You're telling me amriddle, false economy for sure. Usually the little phones like that, that require the least amount of power usually have POE built in. What was Avaya thinking on this one?

I do kind of like the look of the phone though, simplicity in design, but apparently in technology too.

Avaya doesn't market the phone as high tech but as their most basic phone in the 1600 range, so no complaints about that.
With PoE it becomes quite expensive but as a wall mounted phone in classrooms it is a nice phone.

I agree that it's a perfect phone for a room such as a classroom, a hallway, grocery store checkout, department store checkout, and break rooms.

To me the 1403 seems like a sensible phone the 1603 just seems like a waste of time.
