I have SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.194 running on Windows 2000 SP4.

I haven't upgraded the SQL service pack as it would invalidate the support of my ERP System (JD Edwards) that runs on the SQL.

I'm thinking of upgrading the Server to a new Server running Windows Server 2003, but don't know whether the version of SQL Server I have will run on it.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks.

yes it will...

Actually it won't. You will get a notice on install stating that you must upgrade to SP4. Plus Microsoft only supports SQL 2000 SP4 and higher now.

erm, I'm currently looking at a sql2000 sp2 on 2003server...

originally had it on sql2000 sp0 and it didn't complain.

What is your SP for 2003? I would bet you don't have the latest installed? Plus, it sounds like you've upgraded not a clean install as deisehun will be doing.

Check this link.

One thing about having a SQL Server 2000 SP less than 3a is that you are NOT protected against the SLAMMER worm.

I'm sure there's a lot of things the server won't be protected against, but it does work...

So can anyone clarify whether SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.194 - will run on Windows Server 2003?

I cant update the version any further.

it was ok when I originally put the server on there, however I've not done extensive testing before SP1 was applied...

I agree with Paul. If the product is not supported on the operating system, then you are better off not using it. As Bill pointed out, that version of SQL Server has some well known vulnerabilities.

Why can't you update the version any further than the RTM version?

I'm on an old version of JD Edwards - if I update the SQL version any further, it will invalidate my support unless I update the JDe version too.

Why not update the application? The concern is that you are 'open' to SLAMMER worm. If your data is in any way important, I would get it protected.
