Will Share Point Work for Me?

I am trying to setup several different departments web pages on one machine.
Example - IT, Customer Service, HR etc

Can Share Point have a seperate site for each department and allow seperate permissions for each? If so, I have heard of Share Point Server is this what I need?

If you go with Sharepoint Portal Server, you can either have one workspace with separate pages on that workspace for each department, or you can have a different workspace for each department which would then give you a completely different web site.

What else are you trying to do other than create different web pages? Sharepoint is more than a web server.

Thanks for the response - I think I am looking to setup a different workspace for each dept. This would probably give me the the best ability to grant permissions as well as individuals, to mangae there depts site.

How am I going to use Share Point? Well, in testing I setup a Share Point site. Now management wants to create a site for each dept. Allow one person to manage the data for each dept. Used for posting documents, Sharing information, etc. I am sure I have only scratched the surface of SharePoint. I have only had it installed for 5 days.

You will probably see my name in this forum alot. I know nothing about SQL. I will have more problems installing SQL than the actual site.
