will no keystroke timed closeout affect linked databases?

I have a database ["schedtable"] that updates during the night. It is linked to two other databases ["passport" and "refuel"] that personnel access. (They do not directly access the linked database "schedtable.") Occasionally someone leaves "passport" or "refuel" open at the end of their workday. When they do, "Schedtable" does not update.

Is it possible to force close the two databases after no keystrokes in X minutes? If so, is it necessary to protect linked databases? How?

Thanks much,

Imjay

Hi,

There several methods that you can use. use the timer event on a form to execute some action. The action could be to check the value in a table. If the value is true, exit the DB, else continue.

From the schedule DB you can set the value in the table above, giving you control on the other DB's.

BTW, why can't you update with the other db's open?
