I've read all the info about upgrading the firmware, but I have a customer who won't upgrade their IPO and now has recieved newer 5410/5420s. These are at 5.0 and need to come down to 2.x. Will this work? Is it just a matter of having manager open so it can get the file or should I use a real TFTP service?

Yes it will work. I just downgraded about 10 an hour ago. Point Working Dir in Manager to an appropriate folder (I used 3.2.55 Manager). I had to use the Avaya TFTP server to get them started. Plug the phones into DS port and hard reboot. It upgraded 1-2 at a time.

I have been told that if they come upgraded they can't be downgraded. Avaya's solution was to upgrade the IPO. They acted like we were the only one who has noticed it to be a problem.

That was with a certain serial number wich could not be downgraded
Those should have been returned to Avaya !!!

myalias09, when you say "hard reboot" do you mean the phone or the system?

IPO system. A hard reboot of the IPO will force a check of the ports to see is any upgrade/downgrade software is required via the designated TFTP server.
