Will low memory keep the async port from configuring??

We have a 1005 with the IOS 12.08, but only with 8MB DRAM and 2MB flash card.&nbsp;&nbsp;We want to run the ip/ipx feature set and the router claims that the async interface is down and the line protocol is down.<br><br>Any suggestions??<br>
