Hi

What I've read somewhere on forums that if I will install IE 5.5 it will update MSXML parser on my box is it true ?

I developed an app that uses MSXML3.0 but my production boxes are all different some are Win2K some NT4.0 and most of them don't have XML installed at all (NT4.0)... and it's a bit of a problem installing MSXML parser alone ... I would rather upgrade Internet Explorer

Any help is greatly appreciated

What version of MSXML is installed with which version of IE is documented at microsoft.com

I think it updates v2.6 of the parser, not the 3.0 or 4.0. Installing IE 6 may bring you up to v4.0 of the parser, but I'm not 100% sure.

I have had the same problem with NT4 and 2000 boxes, and I have always tried to install the parser DLLs piecemiel with varying degrees of success. I did not know that upgrading IE would also upgrade the MSXML parser set; I must have missed that at the microsoft downloads site.

chiph I would like to say that you always give such uniformly knowledgeable and helpful responses; never wordy and always right to the point. It's been a big help to me here and in the other forums you help out on like ASP.

Gamera99 - glad to help.

You might also want to run Windows Update. I know there have been security patches released that have updated the MSXML 3.0 & 4.0 parsers.

Thank you guys

I found that IE 6 (current from MS site) will upgrade MSXML to 3.0 SP2 and IE 5.5 will upgrade to MSXML 2.5 SP1 ...

I've got a tricky situation ... I need to install my app to a host of web farms on various platforms and owners of these infrastractures are reluctant to run any patches/updates etc

Actually have another question on some NT4.0 boxes they have IE 4.0(!) is it a big jump to upgrade it to 6.0?

>> is it a big jump

clarify "big jump"

well from IE 4.0 to IE 6.0 it's a big jump isn't it ?

Yes, IE 5.5 is the *minimum* browser for real XML support and loading it will update your MSXML dll files.
