Hello,
I'm in the middle of setting up a Netfinity 5000 as a proxy server. I've already upgraded the CPU from a PII 400 to a PIII 600. I'm looking at adding another identical PIII once I get a VRM for it.
My question is: Will I damage the server if I disconnect and remove the SCSI backplane and operate the server without it? I bought a PCI Adaptec IDE controller card and planed on using an IDE HDD for the boot device. I partitioned and formatted the drive and then sys'ed it. I can boot from the IDE drive no problem. Next, I'll be installing Win XP Pro. Right now, it seems to be working fine without the backplane, but I'm increasingly concerned that I may be slowly damaging the power supply or motherboard somehow.
Any insight?
