Customer has a BCM 400 rel 4.0.2 with Call Pilot down. I am wondering if I use the same VM ports (extensions) from the BCM, would it work?
This seems like a more definite solution than replacing HD and/or motherboard after watching booting on a monitor to se if it sees the HD. It seems to me it could also need a motherboard and opens other possible problems-can I get parts; is it the correct part, etc.

You're much better off replacing the HD. You probably could get an external CP to work in some fashion but I can't even imagine the BS you'd have to go through to get it to work. The vm ports on the BCM are set up as application DNs and as such don't have physical ports to connect to. I have no idea what the system would do if you connected the external device to digital ports.

Hard drive is simple enough to check. Are the lights on the front of the system all flashing? If so, your HD is probably toast. If it is, you likely can't log into it either. If that's the case, what's the point of putting in an external voicemail system?

If you can log into it, why don't you just do a factory reset on the voicemail only and reprogram it?
