Have a client using Windows 2000 Server. They need newer, better, full solution that is easy to use, with full & incremental backup functions.

Prefer HD to HD backups for speed & reliability.
Need best sources for lowest cost due to cash flow crunch.
Not limited to Veritas, any bonafide option is welcome.

Thanks all, Dave

I think you would be better off looking at BackupExec. It can do backup to disk, and I believe w/ 9.0 and up you can copy the disk backups to tape...but I am not sure. Netbackup is an Enterpise solution and has a steep learning curve. It is a great product, for the enterprise. If you are only backing up a single server or a small group of servers BackupExec is a better choice, its easier to use and has some great featrures.

justin2000, vm146971 - I found a great deal with V2i Protector - Enterprise server version from Symantec on Ebay. I have used this with Desktop PC's with excellent results. (Symantec purchased PowerQuest, the developer).

Thank you for replies, will still check out BackupExec, Ntbackup.

Guys,

I think Justin was refering to windows "NTBACKUP" not Veritas Netbackup.

NTBACKUP isnt a bad choice for you - mainly because it wont cost you anything.

Powerquest (manufacturers of V2i) were recently bought out by Symmantec (as a matter of fact so was Veritas!!!) So the old V2i product is now called "Symmantec Live State Recovery".

Just make sure that if you are going to use if for a "barebones" restore - you test it first. I have had issues in the past where we tried to do a barebones recovery & only then found out the NIC card was supported etc etc. (we had to swap the NIC - but it was a pain none the less).
