I have installed a new NT4.0 SP6a BDC on a lab network. I would like to update the SAM by putting it on the production network, which is currently NT4.0 SP4. Are there any issues I should be aware of before doing this? This BDC will eventually become the production PDC but I need to do application testing prior to doing this.

Thanks in advance!

We had Servers running anthing from SP3 to SP6a and no problems. In fact, I upgraded our BDC to 6a while the PDC was and stayed at SP4 for about 4 months.

I know of no issues with trying to do what you need to do. I would recommend getting that SP4 upgraded to SP6a ASAP (but that's probably what you are working on...right?!?).

SP6a has good "fixes" (if you will) for DHCP, WINS and the TCP/IP stack.

Have fun!

Thanks G - I couldn't think of what issues there might be - just really needed a vote of confidence from constituents. I appreciate your prompt feedback!

Hi,

I am not sure that you can do what you are trying to do. I am assuming that the LAB domain is different from the production domain. The BDC can only be a member of one domain and can only be created as a domain member at the point of install. Therefore to move the DC to another domain will require a reinstall.... unles you have found some whizz bang utility that does this for you.

Atomic - My lab domain is set up the same as my production domain so name is the same. Thanks for your input!
