I know this may be a stupd question, but I am running out of IP addresses. I may need to look into PAT for my network for the time being.

Any thoughts or ideas?

No, a pix will only have 1 active default gateway. I always configure PAT for all workstations and save IP addresses for necessary servers and such.

Sure, for example say assume that I have been assigned the following subnet.

5.5.5.1 255.255.255.248

That gives me 5.5.5.1 - 5.5.5.6

I would assign 5.5.5.1 to my outside interface and keep 2-6 for my internal servers that serve the public.

My nat statements would be

global (outside) 10 interface
nat (inside) 10 10.10.10.0 255.255.255.0
