Will a PC game that "requires" Windows XP SP3 run on SP2?

I want to get the fairly new game Death Track Resurrection. The requirements state it needs Windows XP SP3. I have Windows XP Pro SP2. So my question is simple, do I absolutely have to have SP3 to run this game? I've spent the better part of an hour and a half and could not manage to even begin downloading SP3 as the Windows Update site is acting up. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I think the best thing to do is try it! The worst that can happen is that you will have to re-install the game if it doesnt work.

Is there any reason in the universe that you just don't install SP3? You just fixed two problems if you do that - 1. SP3 fixes quite a few items and is a good idea and 2. You wouldn't be asking your original question had you installed it.

I am on dial up and the Microsoft Download Center's version of SP3 is over 500 megs, and every attempt to download it via Windows Update failed...

Thanks linney! I got the answer I needed, and I appreciate everyone's replies!

There's quite a few copies of SP3 that have been downloaded, maybe you can get your hands on one of those, from a friend or from a Computer Shop. Either of those two might download it for you for a small fee.

On Dial-up, and via Windows Update, the SP3 via that source is rarely more than about 60MB, which is about 10 hours solid download if you want to tie up the phones for that long, maybe it could be an overnight job?

Good point, Ben.

I forgot about that source, which shows just how long it is since I bought a Computer Magazine, must be about 5 years now.
