Hi all,

We have yet made a decision on what upgrade path to take from AIX ver 4.3.3 due to certain factors. One of them being that Sage are pulling our Financial product we use if we are not on 5.2.

My question is. AIX 4.3.3 is being phased off the support as of 31/12/03. And AIX version 5.1L is scheduled for the same as of the end of 04/04.

If we were to take the 5.2 upgrade route. Will a H70 with this spec be sufficient ?

Spec as follows:

2 way 350Mhz Risc CPUs
2 GB RAM
110GB SSA storage inc. 18GB internal SCSI Disk.
DDS-3 Internal Tape.
DLT External TAPE.

We will be using Informix 7 SE, TETRA CS/3 and currently support 100 users on the box via 10/100 NIC.

Am I right in saying that the H70 series is PCI based ? As 5.2 will not support anything lower ?

Any help on this would be good.

Thanks in advance.

hi,
your H70 supports 64 bit kernel , so your hardware is o.k for installing AIX 5

Have a look at following AIX 5.2 release notes
The other thing to note is , whether your application runs on AIX 5.? , if it doesn't then no point in upgrading to AIX 5.? , firstly check this.

Thanks DSMARWAY.

At the moment our Sage product is being withdrawn as IBM are withdrawing AIX 4.3.3.

Thus if we are going to upgrade our sage product. They are telling us we need to be on version 5.2 of the AIX BOS before going any further. On the other hand it may be a case of moving up to ORacle and another product. But As I believe. Oracle is not supported on version 5.2. Or is it ?

hi ,
oracle is supported on aix 5.2 , you'll have to install the 64 bit version , oracle 9i

Thanks for that.
Curently the other companies within our group are using Oracle 8i and AIX 5.1 so we have no comparison as of yet for verion 5.2.
Although the company I currently work for have not much of a plan of which direction they wish to pursuit. So I am just getting some grounding up to now.

you will have not trouble with H70, just pay attention to application requirements. we have similar machines running, however we put our bigger oracle DBs on larger rigs to facilitate the app load.
