Are you sure its the 1601 and not the 1601-R? Check on the back of the router. Usually the 1601-R comes with lots of RAM like yours and a small flash.
Anyway if it is an R type, it will support the latest 12.2 release (c1600-y-mz.122-40.bin ) with the standard IP feature set. Might be a cost to get an upgrade though through a Cisco partner.
The 1600 is also support on the 12.3 chain but you will need a minimum of 6mb flash for those images.
Thanks for that. The router is a 1600 but I've put in a 16mb stick of RAM myself to beef it up. Actually, the Flash card had IOS 11.3(5) on it as well.
I managed to get hold of the c1600-y-mz.122-40 image and used Solarwinds TFTP server to backup the old image to my PC, transfer the new image onto the card, and reload. I now have a shiny new version of IOS 12.2(24) to play with. All good stuff!
