I have a list of files in a folder on a FTP server say a1.txt
b1.txt
a2.txt
b2.txt
a3.txt
b3.txt

I want the list of files starting with 'a'. So I gave ls -ltr a*.txt but it doesn't work.

Any suggestions ?

dir a*.txt

Hope This Helps, PH.

Thanks PHV.
I have a list of readyfiles and a list of file to be FTP'ed in the same folder on a FTP server. After each file is written a readyfile is also written on the FTP server. These files are written every 15 mins. Both the pattern of the file names of readyfile and the data files are same. i.e filename_YYYYMMDD_hhmmss.
I have to get the latest file every 15 mins through my shell script.

Any suggestions of how I should go about ?
