I have wild card DNS setup for my webpage. If I type asdf.polardesign.co.uk I get the following message.

"Not Found
The requested URL / was not found on this server.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------

Apache/1.3.27 Server at Port 80

When I try test.polardesign.co.uk, which means your webserver is not
configured correctly. BUT, buy looking at the above error message you
can see that the DNS has sent the user to the correct place. I suggest
you ask your web host for some advice telling them the above. They
should be able to tell you right away what config options to
change/configure."

What does my provider have to do allow access to my website via wild card. Using NSLOOKUP all wilcards show the same IP address as 216.127.80.203
Help as my provider has not got a clue.

Depending on how Apache is setup, a [tt]ServerAlias[/tt] may work.

They just have to add an A entry, using the common *

*.polordesign.co.uk IN A 216.127.80.203

I have A records setup with my DNS host which is different to my webspace provider. Which is why if I type or asdf.polardesign.co.uk in NSLOOKUP it provides the same IP address. Which is why I am being sent to the correct server. but only allows access.
Do you mean that there is setting in the webserver which is separate from dns to allow access to my site.
I am a newbie so excuss the confusion

Yes, if you have access to the [tt]httpd.conf[/tt], add this line:
[tt]ServerAlias *.polardesign.co.uk[/tt]
in your virtual host/main configuration. That would make whatever.polardesign.co.uk use the same files as
//Daniel

My provider seems to think that having subdomains setup on my server is the same as is wildcard DNS. He has not replied about setup of the httpd.config file because he thinks Wildcard is setup which it is not. I take it there is a difference between wildcard DNS and subdomains
