Hi all,

I dont no where to start so bare with me.
I have the task of setting a laptop up and wireless with access to the internet and must be able to browse the network shares etc on the lan.

Problem
The laptop can browse the internet no problem, however I cant get onto the lan i.e. see other machines etc.

The kit I'm using is a D-link ADSL/Router/Access point i.e. an all in one jobbie a Firebox Edge X5 the dlink is plugged into the edge WAN1 anything patched into a trusted port can access shares etc. How do I allow the wireless latop (effectively coming in on the eternal interface) to access shares on the trusted?

I feel I may need different kit, just wnat to check if I can do it with what I have already.

If anyone can shed light ... I thank in advance.
Cheers

SOunds like you need to ditch the wireless reouter and just purchase a WAP to connect to your lan. That will solve all of your problems and the wireless user will look like a desktop pc on the network.

Cheers chap.
I thought as much I have hold of a netgear WAP.

A litle worried about outsiders having access to network. But athentication may take care of that, and of course I can use MAC address on each lappy to tie it down further.

Cheers

Use WPA for encryption and you'll get about secure as you can. Using MAC addresses for port security si a great idea: multiple layers of security never hurt. Just remember that whenever someone else in the company needs wireless access and port security is enabled. You'll end up pulling your hair out then thump yourself in the forehead going " D'Oh!"

Thanks Chris Yeh, I have been caught out before with locked MAC addreses ... I used to have hair then as well LOL.

No worries on top of it.
Cheers again

Ok, I have new issues.

I have a WAP connected to trusted with static IP th elaptops can connect and browse lan, however, I now cant browse the internet via laptops.

I have DHCP reserved the WAP IP in the EDGE X5 not sure I needed to but did. I can see theat the EDGE has assigned IP's to the laptops the the web interface so all looks fine. How do pass the traffic through, on the WAP I have also assigned the IP on the first trusted as the GW on the WAP. What else am I missing to me it should work?

Thanks for any help
Cheers

Sorted.
I had to put the DNS in each laptop network client.
I can now browse the net
