Wondering if this app makes anyone pause with a paranoid thought?

Let's you see nearby wireless networks and channels they are on for your own wifi planning purposes. However, since it's "cloud-based" (meaning on the web) and offered for free, might they not be sniffing around for wifi information and populating a database.

It wouldn't affect your wifi security, but it's kind of like when google was recording wifi information. The difference being you have to launch this yourself.

I guess what I'm asking is: Is this the sort of tool that you should pause to think about before using and voluntarily revealing your company or private wifi information?

I don't like the cloud. Never really liked the cloud. Let's see, I upload my data to some innocuous server somewhere, and you have access to all my data......sure sounds good to me, sign me up.

I understand it is a way to save money, for those who don't/can't get a real backup solution. But all I see is a potential disaster in this cloud movement. But then again I'm a control freak, I don't even let my wife drive the car.

I use netstumbler at stumbler.net for sniffing out signals, it's small, and works very well. And nothing to the cloud.

I wasn't talking about or worried about online storage especially if you use the right one. If your files are encrypted when they leave your computer, not much worry there.

Just a yellow flag regarding running any old app off the internet without regard to the information it's tattling back to somewhere. Now that I think of it, this would probably be categorized as LESS privacy-invading than Google keeping all your search results, especially the juicy ones.
