I've got a really weird problem for you. About a few months ago I lost the ability to cut and paste text other objects properly. This is really frustrating as I use this all the time. What's happening is that I seem to be able to cut or copy ok, but when I go to paste the text or object I get this . You would see a small graphic of a purple book with a large yellow question mark embossed on the cover. Have you any clues on this one?

Sounds like Spyware or malware. I'd download Spybot and AdAware and run both with the latest updates. Make to run both, though both are excellent products one will catch stuff the other missed.

We scanned the PC with Spybot and Adaware and cleaned it up. There was only about 15 objects infected. Once removed, it didn't fix the problem. Any other ideas? Google searching came up with nothing related to the problem.

Re-Register some dll’s

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll

I wonder if the problem might be related to removal of a few virus infected files.

NAV found a trojan virus in my system today (how it got past NAV in the first place bothers me slightly - NAV defs were and are up to date) and removed the infected files.

In windows explorer I cannot drag and drop files to move them, although the button on the tool bar still works. Pop-up menus still work but have a rather odd black shadow and not all of the menu shows.

I have found 5 files in the quarantine folder modified today, but they all have what seem to be 8 character randomly generated file names modified. They are all free of virus, but I have no notion where they came from so I cannot replace them.

I operate a standalone dell latitude d600 using w2k sp4. I am my own sysadmin.

per ardua ad astra
