Hello all,

Battling with my CSS layout to get the same effects in IE and Netscape 7.0.

My DIVs are not lining up the same. Noticed that pages displayed on Netscape 7.0 dislay three bizarre almost cyrillic like symbols at the start of the page.

Like these:

They are not in my source code! Have checked in Notepad. Use Ultra-edit to edit the code, and as far as I can tell it does not 'slip it in' for any reason.

Have also noticed the header code contains extra code that is not in my source code! Could my server be adding this? They are plain HTML pages not ASP.

Any ideas why these appear? I think they may be the reason my DIVs are not lining up in Netscape.

The working page is here:

The issue is with the lower border of the heading in the content window matching up with that of the menu. Can post the CSS code if that helps although it is long.

Thanks.

Okay - I copied your source code and, in fact, those 3 characters are in the code!

<!DOCTYPE html
PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
"

I suspect they have something to do with your editor.

I erased them from the code and your page looks like it should.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Exactly!

But if I open the source code in Notepad they do not appear. If I edit in Ultra-edit, then open in Notepad they do not appear. If I view the source in IE they do not appear. But they are in the Netscape source! I suspected the editor, but surely I should see them in Notepad if the editor is adding them??

Well, whatever you've done, it's gone now!

I hope so. Most odd though. I think it may be Ultra Edit sneaking them in, because if I create a new blank page elswhere, then open and save in Ultra-edit, the symbols appear.

Still unsure why I cannot see them in notepad / Wordpad or even Hex view, and also why they only cause an issue in Netscape. Need to also find out how to stop it happening!

Thanks anyway.
