I have a new IBM thinkcenter a50. I upgraded my old 98se to 2000 because of a dos app that won't run on xp properly. I unistalled all the compenents and installed all the ibm win 2k drivers.

When I right click the desktop the screen flashes and then refreshes itself. Also on My Computer screens if I right click on an open area (to copy or paste etc..)it flasehes and closes out the screens. I can copy and paste if a file or folder is highlighted though.

I uninstalled the video driver and reinstalled it but it doesn't make a difference. I also disabled the integrated video and put in a different video card, still same thing.

The event viewer shows no problems in application and system logs. One event stands out though "The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted."

I am assuming this is whats happening when i right click the desktop but not really sure what else I can try.

I aslo did a sfc and it came up with nothing. Did spyware and virus scans..nothing

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

We had a weird right click issue here one time. True story.

A guys calls the help desk, the tech answers, and the conversation goes like this,

Tech - "OK, now right click on your desktop"
Tech hears typing in the background.
Guy - "Nothing happened."
Tech - "Ummm, try it one more time."
Tech hears typing in the background.
Guy - "Nothing happened."
Tech - "Tell me exactly what you're doing."
Guy - "I'm righting click on the desktop."
Tech - "Ohhhh, you're WRITE-ing click...fantastic."

Sorry to threadjack. I thought that story fit the topic.

-If it ain't broke, break it and make it better.
