wierd email... possible virus?

Hello on my friend's network @ work they are receiving messages from people within the organization that were not originally sent from that individual. Example:
Subject is "RE: ID glnqyjodueb... thanks"

message: " Yours ID gfromiro-- Thanks

Could this possible be a new worm that is out? Random messages like this are being sent out, but no one is sending them.
