why # xhost + doesn't work

In solaris 2.6,

I issued /usr/openwin/bin/xhost +
it return
/usr/openwin/bin/xhost: unable to open display ""

when I export DISPLAY=hostname:0.0
then issue:
/usr/openwin/bin/xhost +
the CRT hasn't reaction.

Who can solve this ?

First set your display environment variable to
DISPLAY=<hostname>:0.0 and then do xhost +<hostname>
It will work.

Hi,

if you are logging on from the console, then run
DIPLAY=localhost:0.0
export DISPLAY

this should work.The command doesn't seem to work well on the console if you use hostname:0.0
