I've tried everything I can think of.  In the Device Manager, it says "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)"  Which is funny, because in POST, it finds the hardware juuuuuust fine.I've tried swapping IDE channels.  I've tried swapping slave and master on each channel.  I've tried different CD ROMs in the machine (to no avail) and tried the CD ROM in question in other machines.  I've tried swapping cables.  I've tried unplugging and uninstalling hardware.  The *only* thing I can think of is there's a hardware conflict with the on-board USB.  IRQ 18 is shared by *both* IDE channels, plus one of the USB controllers.Anything else I can look at?  The Event Log tells me nothing, also.  No errors.  Thanks!

So NO CD ROM works in this machine?

When you tried the CD ROM in other machine, did it work there?

Sounds like the secondary IDE channel might not be working - it is enabled in the bios?

Have you tried a hard drive on the secondary? Also, have you tried the CD ROm as slave to a hard drive on the primary?

It can be caused supposedly by upper and lower filters in the registry. This site has a fix for it and even a VB script that will do the deletion of the filters for you.

The fix is found under a search of the letter C and is part way down the page.

It was actually the registry keys that needed to be deleted. Works fine now. Thanks!
