Simple question: If my XP box has the cable modem connected through a router, is there any advantage to enabling the XP firewall?

I understand XP's firewall only protects against incoming attacks, which are already protected by the router's NAT, correct?

Sort of. NAT provides some protection, but is not hack proof. Then again Windows XP firewall is not the best out there. But it is free and is another layer of protection. No harm turning it on.

There are several FREE very good Firewalls that work with XP all versions..I tested Sygate(Free) during the last Beta for (MU) Microsoft Updates...it preformed very well.
I recommend you find a FREE one or buy one that protects both ways.. in & out....
