I have a PIII 600MHz standalone computer running on Windows 2000 Pro. I've installed SQL 7.0 onto the machine. During the installation process, there is a stage where it will configure the machine. The process will normally hang half-way through.

When I tried to start the service in the service manager, it will always gives me the error saying that the service could not be started. Why? How could I solve this problem?

Thanks.

What you have defined to access Sql server access protocal at the time of installation and check that protocal exists in your machine or not.

Have you got network services installed on your machine (maybe Windows 2000 Pro has this anyway). Even though the client and server will be the same physical machine they still talk to each other as if they were over a network.

<a href= home
