Why the priv.edb still shows the same size after cleaning mailboxes?

I asked all users to clean their mailboxes, thinking that this would reduce the size of the priv.edb file but it didn't.

The size was 4.66 GB before cleaning and remains the same after cleaning. Users deleted about 2 GB of data from their mailboxes, this made no difference on the size of the priv.edb file.

Is this because I have circular logging enable?

What can I do to recover the space?

Any help would be greater appreciated,

you need to compact/defragment the database...
