This op-ed on Bad Grammar was brought to my attention, so I thought I would share it.

1. Bump
2. Perhaps an effect of thread1256-966399?

The more people speak and understand English, the less important English might become to the native speakers themselves. No need for speaking slowly and grammatically correctly supported by various gestures - now they're understood if they use everyday's slang...

3. In proper grammar:
subject - verb - indirect object - direct object[green]

Why this instead of

Well spotted, E[sup]2[/sup], and: no idea...
although the word is versus, according to Acronymfinder the correct abbreviation is either v or vs.

IMO the more people outside the language home territory speak (or think they do...) a language, the more important observation of proper spelling and grammar become.

Is this me... or jwenting's post is calling for to ask what is his native "a langauage"?..or it is just me?

I believe vss. is short for verses whereas vs. is short for versus (or the singular verse).

>So I can;t type

No, you can. But if you get a couple of keys on your keyboard swapped, you'll do just fine. [bigglasses]

No, I have a problem in that my brain is way ahead of my fingers. However, it is true that I always miss the ' key. No matter how hard I try, I just can;t seem to master that one. And the shift key and I have a hate-hate relationship. My biggest problem is a total lack of hand-eye coordination. I know how to spell; I know where the keys are; I just can't seem to hit them inthe correct order. And one hand seems to be faster than the other hand, so I get a lot of transpoistions to fix as well. The amusing thing is that i used to teach typing.

This remionds me that I need to add another macro to my command language. You see, I regularly mistype some commands (on my work mainframe computer) that I resolved to storing macros that will automatically "correct" me -- rather than having to retype the stuff.

Interesting. When I have a defect in typing or something else, I work insanely to correct it. The thought of using a macro to fix the error so I can continue making it... [shudder]!

Anyway, I have a question closer to the original topic.

Which is superior?

Bad grammar
Poor grammar

Bad is superior
because Bad is Poor but Poor can be actually not BAD but simply because it is poor...

>The thought of using a macro to fix the error so I can continue making it

These are occasional typos. And, if you see the type and length of commands I must issue under time pressure, you'll probably understand. Also, most people store the same type of commands under a single character, for example.

With respect to the question on bad and poor.

I'm not sure it matters with respect to grammar, but it could with respect to sentence structure. My thinking is that something can be right but poorly done, but if it's bad, then it's wrong.

Good Luck
