Hi,

I have the following network configuration:

"Internet" <-> "Cable Modem" <-> "Cisco Pix Firewall" <-> "Switch" <-> Win 2k3 server

I tried connecting the Cisco Pix directly to the Nic card in Win 2k3 server but got no connection light from PIX.
So I had to put a switch as in the diagram above in order to get PIX to show a connection. Why is this? I should be able to connect PIX directly to the Win 2k3 server.
Have any ideas why this didn't work?

Thanks,

JJ

What kind of pix? DId you try a different type of cable? If you are using a straight through cable then you will need a crossover cable and vice versa. You putting a switch in between seems to point that you need a different cable.

Maybe force the nic to 100Mb instead of leaving it to autonegotiate.

Hi JJ

Greg is correct, the switch is acting as a crossover cable. The same situation would apply if you had a router in place of the PIX.
