I have a Designer version 6 running with Oracle 9i. My server is Pentium IV with 512 Mb RAM. We're about 20 users working with the same repository, and it runs very slowly. Is there some configuration parameter we must change? Can we work with same repository with diferents Oracle Users? Is it a lock problem? Anyone can help us?

First of all I'd recommend to gather statistics (via RAU). And of course repository is an ordinary Oracle application, so you should look for possible bottlenecks on server side as a standard performance tuning task. Analyze buffer cache, shared pool, waits. I don't think it's a locking problem, as Designer was implemented as multiuser task. But the performance may significantly degrade if using version control. I you may live without it - don't install it (AFAIK it can not be switched off)

I would recommend getting the advice of a good DBA, which I am not, but our system has more RAM for fewer users, so that may be something to look into.

You should also look at the size of your tablespaces - although ours were set on auto-extend, they were frequently reaching the limits. This caused delays in saving as the database had to grab more disk space before it could complete the save.

In the installation guide there are some recommendations for the size of the shared_pool_area, etc based on the size of your repository. Make sure these are set to the values for a large repository.

Hope this helps.

Patrick.
