Hi Guys,

Can someone explain me briefly why we should implement JDE instead of going to PeopleSoft directly ?

Then, (as I'm ne to JDE) could you please indicate me a roadmap to learn this ERP (where to find good documention, tutorials).

I will be in charge soon of a World JDE implementation + having to start to study the possibility to migrate to a newer solution.

Thanks for any help,

Depends on whjat the goal of your software is, and what type of hardware you have to support the software. We are a World V7.3 cumm 11 customer. We do not have a big pushing reason to move to differenbt software or hardware. What type of applications will you be implementing? And documentation,,,, well,,, depends on what you want and need.. School, and classes are best by far.

We have World V7.3 installed on a AS/400 platform v5r2.
Onnyl the financial module and the distribution one are in use. Al lot of customization has been built (espacially because the it in charge of it in the past years didn't know what was available in JDE, many RPG applicationhave been build around. How goal would be to be as much standard as we could be...

We don't have a strong push to move ahead. Only our accouting department is requesting it (and from an it point of view, I would be very interested to move to a newer solution.)

Some other office from our company have been monving to JDE One world. We do a lot of exchange of data through interface built in-home, Unstandard EDI garbage... (a lot of maintenance is requested to these applications...)

The main fear fur us is, if we decide to go to JDE One world, that product may die one day due to th fact that PeopleSoft may decide to eliminate in a the coming years...

What would be your advice ?
In addition, could guive me advice on the "roadmap" to build-up my experience on JDE as I'm new to this product (big challenge).

Cheers,

OH Boy,,, that is the big question,,, if Peoplesoft will keep JDE or not. We are facing the same question as are the JDE World customers. I see the OW and Peoplesoft product eventually merging into a single release. If you look at the former JDE customers,,, JDE's revenue stream was almost equally divided between between World and OneWorld. So I do not believe that there will be a push to get the World customers to move. JDE had been quietly trying for a few years with little success. But I see us having to make a very difficult decision in the next 3 years, to stay and migrate to whatever,, or change vendors entirely. Problem is,,, there is not a lot of ERP systems that we fit into that run on the AS400. And we like the solid performance of that platform. I found a book,, called JD Edwards Worldsoftware, it is out of print, but you can find used one's for sale on Amazon. It is a nice overvew of what a programmer needs to know, about working thru the JDE system. It is billed as an Administrators Guide,, very nice. Do you have any local user's groups you can join, and get some help there? There is also another website named jdelist,,, that has a World Form, to share info via. And then the JDE classes while expensive,, are very good. I took a FASTR class,,and it was great at helping me write FASTRS,,and you can always call JDE with questions. I have found the software support people very helpful.
