I have 2 quotes to upgrade my 3.6 BCM 200 to 4.0 and they are both around $2000.

Is that in line with what others are seeing? No way I can get a ROI that will warrant this.

What ever happened to the free (or close to free) upgrades for prior versions?

Maybe is has something to do with the NT to Linnux migration that is neccesary for the upgrade. 4.0 is on a totally different platform.

I'm not sure who quoted you on this, however, it appears someone is taking advantage of you. The list price on this is only around $1000. Street price around $750-$800.
Nortel part#= NTAB3603

I hope this helps.

I paid $560.00 from a Nortel Partner and they provided me with a form to get a $250.00 rebate as well. I am sure they marked it up a bit also. Yikes!

Thanks for the feedback, I googled the part# and Im seeing it for sale between $600-$800. Throw in 3 hours of labour and this should around $900 from a vendor.

Time to haggle :)

I seem to remember talking to I think it was (A1Teltronics) and they quoted $200 for the software.

For $200 I'll call them and order 10 of them. Our cost from Nortel is about $580.

You've got to admit though that it was a nice run getting software updates for free. But, the time has come for Nortel to try to make some money. We can all thank Microsoft, Cisco and countless other companies for making consumers accept the software value model. I'm thinking that someday soon the hardware will be close to free, but the software to make things work will be what you pay for. Thats the only real way to flush out the gray market.
