Question, I recenetly aquired a modified sun ultra 10 machine. When I say modified it has the following spec:
333MHz
512MB
Creator3D
SCSI U160 card
18GB SEAGATE 10K rpm HDD
CR-RW
DD3 Drive
I thought by moving my develpment and general work from the WINTEL machine to a dedicated unix machine performance will be great.
But it is not.
In fact it is much slower.
My P2 400, 256 ram out performes the sun by a great margin.
Is there any specific reason.
Some one told me that it might have to do with the fact most software for solaris is 32bit. So it takes a bit longer to get through the CPU, compared to a 64bit program.
Are there any benchmarking software to prove this theory?
Does anyone have any advice apart from getting a sun blade 2000 or switching back to Mr Gates.
thanks
