Why is ISNUMERIC('-') = 1

using SQL SERVER 2K

I was writing a function to strip out non-numerics and found that SELECT ISNUMERIC('-') = 1.

What!!!
 
select convert(int,'-')

brings back 0 so it looks like that's another way of sayinf zero!

select '-'+3 brings back 3!

Interesting.
