WHY I CAN ONLY READ HUB IN WINDOWS 2000

I have 2 computers. One has OS 98, the other 2000. They are networked through a hub. To access the hub details I type http:\\192.168.8.1 in the browsers and all the details come up. However, this only applies in 2000. When doing this in 98 I get the "unable to find the site" message.
Both run on IE 5.5.
Can anyone suggest why 98 will not show the details through the browser?

If it's a manageable hub, it is possible that only certain or one port can access the management section. Try swapping the ports on the hub between your Win98 and 2000 to see if this scenario applies.

I had already tried changing the ports but it made no difference. I can only think there is something I am not seeing regards 98. The hug manual states it is compatible with all OS's.

Check the proxy settings in Internet explorer. If you don't need them turn them off. If you do put in an exception for 192.168.*.* which should solve matters.
