Why don't Java applets load in IE 5.5? 1

[Conundrum]

I have one workstation in my network running W2K Pro and IE 5.5, like all the rest. However, java applets will not load. The Microsoft VM settings in the IE "Internet Options" menu are all set to enabled, and the security level has been lowered but without success. All the rest of the workstations work without a problem. The gray box which usually appears before an applet fully loads doesn't even appear. Any ideas?
