Gurus,

All I want to do is Web-enable my forms in the development environment. To do this I start installing Oracle 9iAS and it tells me that to get forms running I need to install the infrastructure. So I go with that and then it asks me for the domain name. Now I am running this on Windows 2000 Professional and the IP address on the machine is dynamically allocated. So it does not have a host name or domain name. I tried putting in the dynamically allocated IP address in the hosts file. It seems to accept that and proceeds but later fails in database creation and many other things.
So after installation none of the files like formsweb.cfg, host.htm etc are created.
I'm at my wits end as I cannot understand why the domain name, host name etc are required on a stand-alone machine.
Could any of you please help?
Thanks in advance.

I posted a thread just before you on 08/31/03 with the subject "ORACLE 8i INSTALLER WITH P4 ISSUES AND TNS ERROR WITH 9i"

If you have acess to a network or DSL, try and download the
Oracle9i Database Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP at OTN, if you don't have acess, try and register. The files on three disks is about 1.4GB. This version will configured everything for you. I was having the same problem too with the Domain Name, TNSNAMES, and instance. My 9i works with 9i Forms/Report and 6i. Let me know is this help or you mean something else.

Thanks for your reply Timi. But do I need to install the entire 9i database to web-enable the forms. The product you are suggesting I install is the 9i database whereas the one I think I should be installing is 9i Application Server.
Were you able to web-publish your forms after installing the 9i database? Didnt you need to install an application server and a forms server?

Well, if you need to web-publish your forms, that might be an idea, I only need to be able to run my form with the 9i database. I was having problem configuring the 9i Server on my machine. The domain is not quite understandable how to configure it to work with oracle. You can search more on this site or search oracle site for more clues

You have to use static IP addressing with Oracle 9iAS up to and including the current 9.0.2 release. I am told that in the very soon to be released 9.0.4 this is not the case and you can use dynamic addressing.
