I'm quite new to oracle and have taken on a new project i had a solaris 9 box with oracle 9i (9.2) running ok and the box was rebooted and he dbdoesn't automatically start.

When i try to start the oracle db using ./dbstart nothing happens, i read on google groups something about it looking for a PFILE not a SPFILE, i tried changing this and still nothing works.

can someone help to resolve this please ?

dbstart is somewhat flakey, IMHO, the best thing I can suggest is to write your own script to start the database(s) automatically via sqlplus. I take it the database starts using this method:

sqlplus /nolog
connect / as sysdba
startup

Post back if you need further info.

How do i implement a script if you don't mind ? many thanks.

Sorry I haven't been able to get back to you today, droodle. Hopefully tomorrow will be less busy and I can respond in more detail.
