Why does ZA take so long to load?

I'm using ZoneAlarm Pro (v.3-something) on Windows ME. When I first boot my computer, all the other system tray icons pop right in there, but ZoneAlarm takes over twice as long to load, usually at least a minute. Is there a setting or something I can tweak to reduce load time? Thanks.

Hi,

Stop it from running at startup and then wait until your machine has fully booted up and then start it, does it start any quicker?

If it does, it's having to share CPU with other programs starting up and it's the last in the queue, and I don't think that you can speed it up!

Cheers,
Carl.

Nope, takes the same interminable amount of time even if I start it after everything else has loaded. :-(

Thanks for your reponse, though! Any other ideas?

Email Zonelabs, their support is brilliant, I used them the other day and am impressed with the help they gave me!

Cheers,
Carl.

My ZA icon is always a minute or so late at apearing on my toolbar. I thought it was normal?

I am running Win2kpro SP2 on MSI kt3ultra mobo, AMD1800xp, 512MbDDR, 60Gb hdd, AsusTi4400, alcatel usb adsl modem/router

Perhaps it is normal, if it is happening to more people than just me. It's a bit worrisome, though. What happens if some trojan decides to access the internet during that first minute after startup, before ZA has loaded? [ponder]

This seems to happen to me a few times a year and I always fumble around trying to get it to speed up again. Somehow it all of the sudden slows down at boot up. I actually think I've found a way to correct each time now.

I end up refreshing/deleting my truevector database file (ZAlog.txt). This means you will have to learn all your accesses again though. BUT, it loads at bootup within a few seconds instead of 30-60 seconds.

#9 will give you instructions.

To trouble shoot it to this I've uninstalled and reinstalled but still to no avail. I then boot up without the truevector process - and it loads FAST. So, I then follow the refresh procedures. (I can't find exactly what the truevector process is doing because ZA appears to still work without it loaded, so after refreshing I have truevector start up again during bootup)

I hope this helps. It certainly does the trick for me.
