Why does WinXP see my IDE drives as SCSI ?

I reinstalled XP;my HD'S are now SCSI.If I poulate the volume on drive two it says "foreign" and I can't access the files.I've tried removing it and rebooting -no joy.These are not SCSI drives and I'm confused.
